Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
An important political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
